Yesterday was a zero, so you’d think I’d get a good nights sleep, especially since I was in a hotel room. Somehow I woke up at 0200 and couldn’t get back to sleep. I wound up working on the blog. At least the internet wasn’t too slow for a few hours. (I was still 10 days behind.)
Smokebeard and I caught a hitch back to the trailhead with Bandit and Stripes at 0830. The forecast was still high 90’s to low 100’s but some clouds saved us during the morning and kept things cooler.
The terrain today leaving Bernie reminded me a lot of northwest Florida, near I-10, north of tPensacola and Fort Walton Beach. Tall skinny pine trees with scrub oaks, brush like vegetation. Strange to think that the panhandle of Florida could be so similar to Northern California volcanic area.
We took a detour through MacArthur-Burney State Park to see Burney Falls. It was worth it! The falls are beautiful.
The terrain Changed back into forest once the trail climbed above 4000 ft.
Not much to tell today – I just hiked.
I camped with a swarm of mosquitoes, Smokebeard, Bandit, Stripes), Bomber and YBF. Sonic and Fish were nearby.
It was an Early night. I need to catch up on some sleep.
