I was awakened at 0515 when a truck drove up the dirt road. The minivan that arrived at 11:45pm was still there. The van started up and departed. Funny….. I don’t recall hearing the driver get out or return to the vehicle. Hmmmm……..I’m not sure he was a fisherman after all. Perhaps he, like me, just needed a place to sleep.
No more camping anywhere near dirt roads.
Of course, within a half mile I found 3 campsites, and a bunch more within a mile. Too bad it was so late last night to continue on.
The Silverwood Lake Recreation area is pretty if you’re in the San Bernardino area.

Overall my feet are doing so much better. They still get sore in the afternoon but hiking 20+ miles will do that. The days in Big Bear was much needed and worked wonders. Hiking my own pace is the other key.
It was hot so I dipped my hat and shirt in every creek I crossed.
The last 9 miles to I-15/Cajon Pass was particularly dry. But Mickey D’s was the reward. I got there at 1500. A quarter pounder with cheese, large vanilla shake small fry and iced tea. It tasted wonderful.
Which way would should I go?
There was no water until Wrightwood so I tanked up on water at McD’s – 6.5 liters – the best McDonald’s franchise I have ever been to!
I hiked another 4.5 miles. I wanted to find a suitable cowboy camp site during daylight – a place with no dirt roads or fishermen in site. I did but then 10 hikers wound up passing me. I’d seen only 2 hikers on trail all day. Where the heck did they come from?

Anyways, I fell asleep to the sound of trains and the interstate in the distance and the lights of the inland empire below
