Day 91 – 7/14

◦ Miles: 1432.7 to 1460.6 ◦ Trail Miles: 27.9 ◦ Miles Hiked: 28.3 What a difference a good night’s sleep makes— I awoke at 0520, packed up and was hiking by 0600, near record time for me. I felt so refreshed. The forecast was for hot temps. Fortunately the clouds stuck around until late morning

I’m not dead yet. I’m just behind on the blog.

Hi Everyone! Just wanted to let you know I’m still out on the trail hiking. I’m a few days, er, make that weeks behind on posts. — The cell/data service is not the best in the wilds of southern Oregon (at least not for AT&T), and really, I’m just kinda tired after hiking all day.

Day 90 – MacArthur-Burney Falls State Park

7/13/18 Miles: 1411.3 to 1432.7 Trail Miles: 21.4 Miles Hiked: 22.2 Yesterday was a zero, so you’d think I’d get a good nights sleep, especially since I was in a hotel room. Somehow I woke up at 0200 and couldn’t get back to sleep. I wound up working on the blog. At least the internet

Day 89 – Zero in Burney

7/12 -Day 89- Zero in Burney Mile Marker: 1411.3 Trail Miles: Zero Even with a comfy bed and air conditioning my body kept to hiker hours. I woke at 0600. Still, it was nice to relax – not have to pack up a tent – and watch the morning news. I ran into several hikers

Day 88 – Hat Creek Rim to Burney

July 11 Miles: 1390.8 to 1411.3 Trail Miles: 20.5 The wind picked up as the sky started to lighten around 0430 this morning. It was a beautiful sunrise from my cowboy camp perch, but the wind made sure I couldn’t sleep. — One challenge to cowboy camping is making sure your gear doesn’t blow away

Day 87 – Old Station & Hat Creek Rim

7/10/18 Miles: 1369.6 to 1390.8 Trail Miles: 21.2 Miles Hiked: 22.6 Last night I’d finally caught up to Smokebeard at a campsite along Hat Creek. We were about to enter a dry stretch, so there were a lot hikers camped near the creek. About 3 miles prior to the creek there’d been trail magic. It

Day 86 – Bears, Cat Holes and Cat Naps (Lassen Volcanic NP)

Miles: 1346.3 to 1369.6 Trail Miles: 23.3 Miles Hiked: 25.9 WARNING: If you’re easily grossed out, please skip today’s post. This falls under TMI. You have been warned. Last night, Smokebeard and I camped on the south border of Lassen Volcanic National Park. It was a mosquito infested area, but allowed us to skirt the

Day 85 – South Boundary of Lassen Volcanic National Park

Miles: 1318.0 to 1346.3 Trail Miles: 28.3 I was on the trail shortly after 6 AM. Throughout the morning there were views of Mt Lassen. I was in Lassen National Forest but my goal was to camp at the border of Lassen Volcanic National Park tonight. I had intermittent cell service, so I got caught

Day 84 – HYOH and be happy

Miles: 1295.5 to 1318.0 Trail Miles: 22.5 Miles Hiked: 23.1 I awoke early but was feeling stressed about the blog, so I worked on some entries, knowing I might have cell service later. I didn’t get on the trail until late, 0750. I finished the last 5 miles of the 13 mile climb leaving Belden.

Day 83 -Belden Town

7/6 Miles: 1282.4 to 1295.5 Trail Miles: 13.1 I’d checked the delivery status of my new trekking poles when I briefly had cell service last night. They weren’t projected to arrive in Belden until tomorrow. So much for paying extra for expedited shipping. Part of me still had hope they’d arrive at the trail angel’s
